Everything You Need To Know About Aromatherapy

What is it?

Short answer: Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils or other aromatic blends to enhance wellness.

But we’re going to be real with you. Essential oils are wonderful, but not a cure-all. The practice of aromatherapy is more therapeutic than science-based, an important distinction to remember. While essential oils serve a number of helpful purposes, they, and aromatherapy cannot, on their own, cure diseases or physical ailments. However, aromatherapy can help create a sense of calm, ease anxiety, and can contribute, among other things, to alleviating some physical and emotional stresses.

Why is it good for you?

Aromatherapy, as said above, can be calming, ease anxiety, and it can activate the limbic system. The limbic system helps regulate emotions and memories, which is helpful for times when you need calming or relaxation. It’s also why our memories are linked to fragrances.

How can I add aromatherapy into my routine?

Aromatherapy and fragrance are simple additions to your everyday life! Try lighting an essential-oil based candle when you arrive home, or using an essential oil diffuser for an hour before bed. Once these scents are associated with calming, positive memories, you’ll want to use elements of aromatherapy all the time.

What are classic aromatherapy scent profiles?

Lavender: Lavender is often used to create a sense of calm, which is why this oil is often used in sleep blends or calming blends.

Eucalyptus: This essential oil is often used to relieve congestion and promote overall feelings of wellness, or aid in refreshing the fragrance of rooms and spaces.

Sage: Sage is an excellent essential oil to help ease stress. Also, it does have an antibacterial medicinal quality. If using sage oil for that purpose, we kindly suggest consulting a physician or holistic doctor before using this oil as a medicinal item.

Chamomile: Much like lavender, chamomile can create a sense of calm or promote sleep. This is also an excellent therapeutic choice for relieving anxiety.
