Pets & Eucalyptus: A Safe Combination?
Our Sijo customers have the cutest pets we’ve ever laid eyes on, and that’s not an exaggeration. We adore our customers’ pets, and want to ensure their safety however we can. And often, we hear these questions: “Is eucalyptus safe for cats?” “Is eucalyptus safe for dogs?” “Is eucalyptus safe for pets of any kind?”
Let’s start with some basics.
What is eucalyptus?
Eucalyptus is a leafy plant native to Australia and the surrounding islands. This can be found, now, in many other regions. The plant’s leaves emit oils, often used for essential oil products and even for some medicinal purposes.
These leaves and oils are of concern to many pet owners. Let’s get into why.
Is eucalyptus safe for cats? And, is eucalyptus safe for dogs?
The leaves and oils of the eucalyptus plants can be harmful to cats and dogs. Wood pulp or stem pulp material, when processed correctly, will not harm dogs or cats.
Please note that cats may be sensitive to a number of essential oils - not just eucalyptus. We recommend steering clear of our assortment if you have a cat in your home.
Is it safe for my pet to sleep on eucalyptus sheets?
Yes! Our Eucalyptus collection bedding is made from the wood pulp of the eucalyptus trees and plants, meaning we only use the animal-safe component to create our bedding.
What happens if my pet eats eucalyptus?
You may notice that your pet will experience vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, or more gastrointestinal related symptoms should this happen.
We recommend getting in touch with your local veterinarian as soon as you can should your pet ingest eucalyptus or any oils, home products, skincare products, or medicines including eucalyptus. A chemical compound in the oil is very harmful for pets’ gastrointestinal health.
Do Sijo eucalyptus sheets include oil or unprocessed leaves?
No, our bedding does not include the oil or unprocessed leaves of the eucalyptus plant/trees. We only use the wood pulp in the processing and manufacturing of our bedding and loungewear materials. We do, however, carry essential oils containing eucalyptus, and we recommend keeping these out of the home (we have several great options without this oil) or keeping these oils far out of reach of pets.
Are Sijo sheets non toxic for cats and dogs?
Yes, they are! Sijo bedding is non-toxic for pets, and of course, for people too. They’re perfect for the whole family, including our beloved fur babies, to enjoy.
