How To Get Better Sleep: Top Tips For A Better Quality Night's Sleep

Something that has been elusive for quite some time has been the key to get better sleep consistently. There are many tips and tricks out there, and many of them are different from person to person.

We're sharing a few tried and true tips that will show you how to get a better night sleep, and will hopefully help you feel rested all day.

How To Get A Better Night Sleep

  1. Set a routine in place. Routine is one of the top tip for how to get a better quality night's sleep. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day to create consistency. This can be difficult at times. Don't worry if you're not able to do this every single night (things happen!) but try to aim for consistency on most nights.
  2. Reserve your space for sleep. If it's possible, reserve your bedroom for primarily sleep/calming nighttime activities. Watching TV, reading, eating snacks or talking on the phone in bed makes you associate it with activities that keep you awake and alert, rather than activities that allow you to rest. 
  3. Cool & dark is the way to go. Keeping your bedroom cool will likely help you get a better night of sleep. We have found that ideal temperatures are between 65 - 75 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 24 degrees Celsius). This might mean keeping a fan in your room, using cooling bedding, and wearing a sleep mask to further darken your space.
  4. Engage in calming activities. Journaling, meditation, light stretching/yoga, and reading or listening to calming music and sounds are all great activities to help wind your body down and prepare you for a quality night of rest.   5. Add in some exercise. Including a workout in your day helps often allows for better, deeper nights of sleep. We suggest avoiding exercise too closely to bed time, though, as that might give you a surge of energy right before sleep.
  6. Consider a sleep aid. If you're truly having trouble sleeping, melatonin could be a helpful sleep aid for you. Melatonin pills and patches introduce more of the hormone that promotes sleep and helps you fall asleep if you're having trouble. We highly suggest consulting your physician before adding any new supplements into your routine.
